 <title>Fibromyalgia and Free Radicals</title>

Free radicals are highly reactive molecules that can be harmful to our cell membranes and the cellular damage they can produce puts additional stress on the already dysfunctional immune system found in the fibromyalgia syndrome. Free radicals are produced during the oxidative processes in the production of energy. An excess of harmful free radical production can result from the effects of air pollution, radiation, toxic wastes, food additives and pesticide residues.

Drinking fluids before, during, and after exercise is key to improved health, safety, and physical performance for everyone involved in physical activity, from walkers and gardeners to competitive athletes. In a recently issued statement, the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) has concluded that inadequate fluid intake during exercise can be physically harmful and proper rehydration is vital to maintaining cardiovascular health and a safe body temperature.

Each year, more than two million people visit a doctor for dizziness, and one of those was Olympic figure skater Scott Davis. In Davis&#039; case, he was diagnosed with benign positional vertigo, an abnormal sense of motion that commonly results in dizziness.

 <title>Bone Basics for Baby Boomers</title>

There are presently millions of &amp;quot;baby boomers&amp;quot; in the United States. Baby boomers...that&#039;s the term we give to individuals in this country born between 1946 and 1964...a time in our culture when having babies was all the rage...very much in vogue. The boomers already make up a significant portion of the American population. As we age as a nation, and extend our longevity, too, the boomers will become more and more of a factor in the American healthcare delivery system.

<title>Cancer and Fertility Preservation: Patient’s Fact Sheet by ASRM</title>

In the United States there are approximately 800,000 reproductive-aged men and women who have cancer, many of whom have concerns about their fertility. Life- saving cancer treatments may reduce fertility by destroy- ing eggs and sperm. The likelihood of reproductive dam- age depends on the age and sex of the patient and the type and duration of treatment. The most severe damage comes from radiation to the ovaries or testicles and cancer drugs in the &amp;ldquo;alkylating agent&amp;rdquo; category such as cyclophos- phamide, mechlorethamine, chlorambucil, and melphalan.

 <title>What Causes Dementia?</title>

The exact cause of Alzheimer&#039;s Disease, a form of dementia, is still unknown. However, scientists have been able to indentify several contributing factors. Alzheimer&#039;s Disease is known to have a genetic componant as well as an environmental one. While Alzheimer&#039;s is a form of dementia, dementia is not necessarily Alzheimer&#039;s. There are many forms of demetia, some which are entirely curable. It is imporatant to understand the distinction between Alzheimer&#039;s disease and dementia.

Speak to your pharmacist if you have any questions about your medications (including how to take them, what they do, or if they may interact with any other medication you may be taking). It is especially important during the early stages of your treatment that you are comfortable with your medication and that you are taking it correctly.

Behavioral problems commonly coexist with cognitive deficits during the course of Alzheimer&#039;s and other dementing diseases. They cause significant morbidity, interfere with the performance of activities of daily living, and often have a greater impact on the quality of life of family and caregivers than cognitive impairment.
