Foods Helpful for the TB Patient

Fresh fruits and vegetables for vitamins A and C and other antioxidants. Strive to have five to nine servings each day.
Fatty fish like pangash and hilsha for vitamin D. Other good sources are eggs, fortified milk, and margarine. Eat three servings daily
Lean meats, poultry, fish and eggs for protein, which is needed to heal damaged tissue. The diet should provide at least two servings daily
Spinach, potatoes and grain products for vitamin B6 to help prevent nerve damage while taking isoniazid. Meat and other animal products are also high in vitamin B6. Have one serving daily Pasta and noodles, rice, legumes, grains and other starchy foods for energy. TB patients need the maximum of 12 servings

One serving is:
Grain products - 1 slice bread; ½ cup noodles or rice; 1 bowl of hot or cold cereal
Vegetables- ½ cup fresh, frozen or canned vegetables; 1 cup salad; ½ cup juice
Fruits- ½ cup fresh, frozen, or canned fruit; 1 medium - sized fruit; ½ cup juice
Milk products - 1 cup milk ; 1/2 cup yogurt; 50 grams of cheese
Meat and fish- 100 grams of lean meat, poultry or fish; 1 to 2 eggs.
