Chicken Pox can be Prevented

Doctors in a seminar opined in favour of getting jab of Chicken Pox vaccine to avoid this infectious disease for those who are not yet exposed to the virus. This vaccine (one dose for below 12 years but above 9 months and 2 doses for above 13 years 6-8 weeks apart) can effectively prevent the disease and might avoid an attack even after exposure if it is given within 72 hours.
A scientific seminar on "Varicella Infection and Prevention" was organised at Dhaka Shishu Hospital sponsored by GlaxoSmithKline Bangladesh Limited. Prof. Md. Salim Shakur, Academic Director, Bangladesh Institute of Child Health (BICH) and also Director of Dhaka Shishu Hospital, chaired the seminar.
Prof. Md. Sirajul Islam, Dr. Md. Selimuzzaman, Dr. Md. Mahbubul Hoque from Dhaka Shishu Hospital presented their scientific experiences of the disease, its complications and management. Prof. Mohammed Hanif, Prof. MAK Azad Chowdhury, Prof. MA Kashem Sarkar also discussed about the disease.
Dr. Ashoke K. Roy, Communications Manager, GlaxoSmithKline presented the scientific rationale of Chicken Pox vaccine. He said Chicken Pox is not always benign. It can have lots of complications. Vaccination is cost effective and can avoid lots of complications, he added.
Doctors took part in the discussion session. About three hundred doctors of the hospital and also from outside attended the seminar.
