Breastmilk is the best food for the new born child. There is no substitute of breastmilk to the children. Apathy toward breastfeeding has led to dire consequences of deaths of children is a large number. According to UNICEF, every year one million children die in the third world because of feeding through bottle.

The Institute of Public Health and Nutrition and Breastfeeding Foundation has found out that only 14 per cent of children get breastfeed upto the age of five month, 86 per cent not. Consequently, about 700 children die of malnutrition in our country. In order to encourage the breastfeeding World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action started to observe "World Breastfeeding Week" since 1992.

The Children should be breastfed for sustenance of their health, irrespective of rich and poor. Breastnulk contains appropriate amount of elements necessary for physical and mental growth of the children. This is most essential from birth upto the age of five month. Children might be breastfed upto the age of two years, beside other foods. Breastfeed contains a lot of living cells, the amount of which changes according to the requirement of the children. A survey revealed that the I.Q. of children breastfed are eight times more than that of children who were given artificial milk.

The first breastmilk immediately after the- birth of a child is called "Colostrum". This colostrum is as good as the first vaccine for children. This milk is an antibiotic which protects the children and ensure their health and life.

Moreover, colostrum cleans the stomach. At the time of birth the children ear a lot of fluid within the uterus which are detrimental to their health. The colostrum removes these fluids from the stomach.

If the tinned feed are kept for a while after preparation, there is the risk of producing germs in it. Or the other hand, breastfeed is always fresh, pure and an ideal meal for children.

Dr. Avrin Parveen Alam of the Breastfeeding Corner of Dhaka Medical College Hospital says breastfeeding, produces immunity in the children. Therefore, they do not attacked by disease easily. The brain of the children becomes sharp and they remain healthy if breastfed.

Breastfeeding, Has a Lot of Benefits. For example:

  1. It is safe and simple meal.
  2. It is low cost.
  3. It helps a child grow, rapidly and remain healthy.
  4. Immunity grows in the child.
  5. Teeth and gum of breasfed child become strong and beautiful.
  6. Breastfeeding cleans stomach.
  7. It strengtthens the ties between mother and child.
  8. It reduces possibility of pregnancy of the mother by 98 per cent.
  9. The uterus regains its earliar size and shape. 159
  10. Risk of cancer in breasts and uterus, reduces.
  11. Four to six months, period for the newborn is the most risky period for children. Breastfeeding reduces the risk.

In the world become blind in every year due to inadequacy of vitamin "A". Colostrutn the first milk, of the mother contains adequate Vitamin "A".

Any conscious mother call make her child healthy with her breastmilk. Breastmilk is very nutritious for a sick child. It is easily dibestable and it rapidly cures the baby.

If a Mother is Interested to Breastfeed Her Child Then She Must Abide By Some Rules Through Which Amount of Milk May Be Increased. The Rules are :

  1. She must drink milk and much water.
  2. She must maintain the diets of maternity period. She must drink milk everyday.
  3. Sugar increases the amount of milk. The mother must have to take sugar before breastfeeding the child.
  4. "Jain" and "Black Cumin (Kalizica) " may increase the amount of milk of a mother if she takes that.
  5. The mother must have sleep and take rest routinely.
  6. She should avoid lardwork that reduces milk.
  7. She should make the child suck her breast intermittantly.
  8. She should keep the child in right position while breastfeeding so that the child can take adequate milk.

These rules are very important for mothers of all strata, especially working mothers. But they are hindered from caressing and caring their children because of less opportunity in the working place or time.

They Can Properly Breastfeed The Children If Some Privileges are There:

  1. Maternity leave should be five months.
  2. More than one interval should be granted for breastfeediug;
  3. There should he childcare centre at every working place.
  4. Work schedule should be according to shift.
