Symtopms
With Acute Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID):
- severe pain and tenderness in the lower abdomen with vaginal discharge, often accompanied by fever.
With chronic PID:
- mild, recurrent pain in the lower abdomen, sometimes accompanied by backache or irregular menstrual periods.
- pain during intercourse.
- infertility.
- irregular menstrual periods.
- heavy, unpleasant-smelling vaginal discharge
Call Your Doctor If :
you experience sudden abdominal pain with or without fever; it may indicate acute pelvic inflammatory disease or another serious condition that requires immediate medical attention, such as appendicitis, endometriosis, a ruptured ovarian cyst, or an ectopic pregnancy.
you experience any abnormal menstrual bleeding; you may have pelvic inflammatory disease or another serious condition, such as endometriosis or cervical cancer.
you experience a vaginal discharge that is foul-smelling or unusually heavy; you may have pelvic inflammatory disease or another condition that requires medical treatment, such as vaginal, uterine, or cervical problems, or a sexually transmitted disease.
